Text Box: ThinkFirst for Kids is an award-winning, curriculum- based program for elementary school children ages 6 to 8 years old.  This program increases awareness and knowledge about traumatic injury and the use of good safety habits. Increasing knowledge, while modifying attitudes and behavior, will  help decrease traumatic injury in this age group over their lifetime.

Street Smart and his friends educate children on ow to be safe and Think First!Honest discussion from our Voices for Injury Prevention give teens the opportunity to discuss ways to make better, safer choices in their lives.Text Box: Teenagers are at greatest risk to suffer severe traumatic injury resulting in death or disability.  Brain and spinal cord injuries are on the rise among our youth.  ThinkFirst provides a dynamic, interactive program to educate teens during their junior and senior high school years.  Honest discussion by our Voices for Injury Prevention (VIP) is a key component of the program.

Traumatic Injury can be prevented.  The programs of ThinkFirst help to prevent injury through education.Text Box: Each year an estimated 500,000 people sustain traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries in the United States.  The most frequent causes of these injuries are motor vehicle crashes, falls, sports and recreation, and violence. Children and teens are at high risk for these devastating injuries, many of which are preventable.  The ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation’s award- winning public education efforts target this high risk age group.

These upbeat programs educate young  people about personal vulnerability and risk taking. The message is that you can have a fun-filled, exciting life without hurting yourself if you “ThinkFirst” and use your mind to protect your body.  More than 8 million young people have heard the ThinkFirst message through our various programs.
